How this started
Dr. Michaela Höhne-Wiechmann studied BioSciences and did her PhD in molecular Biochemistry. During that time she got intrigued by the power of Bioinformatics.
She started to take courses (R, Python, Matlab, command line). But none of them taught her how to analyze genomic data from A to Z. From using a high performance computing cluster, to generating figures for publications.
So when she started her PostDoc as the only Bioinformatician in a wet lab group, she taught herself. The slow way. Wrong turns included.
Most bioinformatics training is built by computer scientists, for computer scientists — not by someone who remembers what it's like to not know what a BAM file is.
Then a realization: if this gap existed here, it existed everywhere. So she built the course she wished she had.

Who We Are
Michaela: Scientist Bioinformatics at TRON gGmbH Mainz. She leads RNA-seq analysis for various research projects, including differential expression and downstream analyses, and built an internal R package for differential analysis and created an internal RNA-Seq course. Michaela is also a certified Mental Health First Aider.

Thorsten: Has a completely different background - trained in industrial mechanics, worked as production planner and now is a team leader in industry. Brings his business expertise to the company, as well as his personal experiences with stress, pressure, time management.
